When Kristine and Michael Barnett brought Natalia Grace into their lives in 2010, they genuinely believed they had adopted a six-year-old Ukrainian girl.
But the couple didn't have to wait long to start noticing some odd behavior from their new "child."
Although she was just 6, she had 'periods, adult teeth, and pubic hair', leaving the couple terrified.
Their 'little girl' Natalia was suffering from spondyloepiphyseal dwarfism.
The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, an Investigation Discovery documentary, told the unbelievable tale. Kristine and Michael described the "horror" of their encounter with someone they now indicate as a "sociopath."
The two claimed that Natalia's knife-wielding threat and declaration that she was "going to kill everybody" was the breaking point for them.
However, she immediately refuted all the accusations.
The couple filed a request to have her case heard in Marion County Court in Indiana, accusing her of being a murderous and deceptive liar.
Michael revealed in a documentary that the legal goal was to correct her age, and after medical tests, a judge determined her to be 22 years old.
Natalia, now with a new birth certificate and Indiana I.D., is ready to share her story in a captivating documentary.
The 34-year-old is going to share her perspective in the upcoming show, The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks, which is scheduled to premiere in January.
"In every lie is a hidden truth, but you gotta dig enough to be able to see it," she tells viewers in a newly-released trailer.
"This is my side of the story. Do I look like a monster to you?"
In the teaser, she can also be seen approaching Michael and crying as she tells him, "You're supposed to be my dad. You're supposed to be the one to protect me."
Then, Michael reports that Natalia pressures him to acknowledge that she never held a knife to threaten him and asks him if he regrets his involvement in the first documentary.
As the trailer comes to a close, Natalia tells viewers she wants "people to pay for what they've done," as her adoptive father storms out of the one-on-one interview.
