A couple in Beijing, China, were horrified to discover that they had been drinking water from toilet pipes for six months after moving into their new apartment.

Every month, the couple pays 10,000 yuan (about $1,400-) in rent. But six months after moving in, they still haven't paid any water bills.

The two checked the water meter and were left shocked after discovering it wasn't running. Mr.Tan confirmed that it was only when he turned on the tap that the number on the gray water meter increased significantly.

After realizing this was unusual, the couple decided to call a plumber to check the pipes. The staff were extremely surprised to find that the daily water supply to the apartment, which the couple had been using for a long time, had been cut off.

The couple was shocked after discovering that all the water in the apartment had been toilet water, used for all their activities including cooking, drinking, and washing.

The plumber later corrected the mistake, but Mr. Tan and his wife were left in distress as it had a negative impact on their health and spirits for half a year. They requested monetary compensation from the leasing company.

Residents have the option to select between standard household water and toilet water sourced from a nearby well by adjusting the valve, according to the company.

Although the well water successfully passed quality testing in March, but is only used for flushing toilets and watering flowers.
