An expert offers a reasonable explanation as to why you might always want to sit next to the best-dressed person on the plane.

Sitting in a row with a stranger on the plane is something we don't want. However, there are one or two recognition signs that can help you determine whether the person sitting next to is going to annoy you or not.

Thomas Plante, a psychology professor at the University of Santa Clara, states that people tend to behave better when they dress better. Aviation experts also concur that sharper dressers are better passengers to deal with.

Airline pilot Ken Schulte mentions that well-dressed people never cause drama on a flight. Troublemakers, on the other hand, tend to appear as if they just rolled out of bed.

For this reason, passengers and others are urging airlines to enforce a dress code. Christopher Elliott, a travel writer for the Seattle Times, suggests that passengers opt for "a light version of business casual" attire. He emphasizes that both passengers and some psychologists believe that dressing up before the flight can lead to increased respectfulness and a decreased likelihood of conflict.

He advises people to wear long pants, shirts with collars, dress and no bare feet or T-shirts with offensive logos.

Wearing appropriate clothing and well-fitting shoes is highly beneficial during a flight. Tony Kuna, a former crew member, explains that wearing flip-flops can pose a safety risk during emergencies on the plane. In case of debris on the plane and your feet not being properly covered, you will have a hard time finding a safe path.
