In an attempt to achieve his target weight, a man went without food for 392 days and lost a huge amount of weight.

How did you feel as you fasted for an hour, even for one or two days? You felt tired, dizzy, and even faint.

However, you were stunned after learning about Barbieris, who fasted for 392 days to get his ideal weight, and he lost a huge amount of weight.

Angus Barbieri, 27, managed to lose a huge amount of weight in the 1960s.

Hailing from Scotland, Barbieri weighed a staggering 456 lbs (207 kg). He told hospital staff that he wanted to stop eating altogether to try and lose weight as he checked into the University Department of Medicine at the Royal Infirmary of Dundee in June 1965.

As documented by Diabetes.co.uk, the doctors helped Barbieri in his weight loss journey by closely monitoring his progress.

Initially expecting the fast to last only a few days, doctors prescribed multivitamins and yeast to compensate for his lack of nutrients.

However, Barbieri wanted to lose weight to gain 180 pounds, so his weight loss process turned days into weeks and beyond.

His diet during this period consisted solely of tea, coffee, soda water, and vitamins. Remarkably, as the fast persisted, Barbieri's body adapted by burning its fat stores for energy.

His process of losing weight concluded in July 1966, and he decided to end the fast after 283 days. In the concluding months of his prolonged fast, Barbieri began to add a pinch of sugar or milk to his tea and coffee.

After the effort without eating for 392 days,  Barbieri achieved his goal weight of 180 pounds. Despite the prolonged fast, he experienced low blood glucose levels without suffering any adverse effects.

Remarkably,  as reported by the Chicago Tribune, Barbieri did only 'go to the toilet' every 40–50 days.

He admitted that he forgot the taste of food after an extended period, but he gradually reintroduced himself to eating with a first breakfast consisting of a boiled egg with a slice of bread and butter.

Years later, Barbieri is still fast, and he is successful, with his weight remaining at 196 pounds after half a decade.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, he holds the longest record ever recorded.

However,  Barbieri's case is reported as 'incredibly unusual' and 'one of the most extreme examples of a starvation diet ever recorded' by Diabetes.co.uk, so any attempt at such a diet at home is strongly discouraged.
