On social media, McDonald's left customers shocked after announcing plans to offer a meal bundle this summer.

Starting June 25, customers can enjoy a $5 meal bundle including a McDouble, a McChicken sandwich, small fries, a small soft drink, and four McNuggets.

A McDonald's spokesman said Wednesday: 'We know how much it means to our customers when McDonald's offers meaningful value and communicates it through national advertising.

'That's been true since our very beginning and never more important than it is today.'

However, not all McDonald's restaurants will participate in this promotion. Some locations, especially those with higher labor and rent costs, may opt out.

On social media, McDonald's enthusiasts have been buzzing with opinions.

While some fans are thrilled about the deal, others question its value.

One person said: Id rather have stuff in a locked box then to have a bunch of transactions.

A second wrote: They had the$3 ones locked up at my Walmart. But, it has been released.

While a third commented; She’s gonna leave the cart full of locked items because she doesn’t have any money to pay for any of it.

Another added: Well, these days it seems like certain people are just gathering together to live in each their own special neighborhoods. I do not know of course what kind of neighborhood that you're living in, but maybe it just have it coming.

Despite McDonald's impressive $14.5 billion profit last year, the $5 meal bundle is being subsidized. Coca-Cola, the drinks supplier, is chipping in, along with franchisees who operate nine out of ten McDonald's restaurants.

Most McDonald's outlets are run by franchisees who set their own prices based on their costs, which can be significantly higher in some areas.

These franchisees approved the deal last week, eager to attract customers back, even if it means subsidizing some of the deal's cost.

During last month's earnings call, CEO Chris Kempczinski emphasized the need for McDonald's to be 'laser-focused on affordability.' This comes in the wake of slipping sales, particularly among lower-income Americans. The new deal is an attempt to attract customers who have been priced out by the chain's rising menu prices.

Additionally, many fast-food chains are facing the effects of the cost-of-living crisis.

Consequently, huge chains like McDonald's are compelled to offer more substantial promotions to attract customers to their outlets.

However, this is not the first time McDonald's has faced outrage over high prices.

Previously, a viral video on TikTok showcased McDonald's $16 meal, sparking outrage among viewers.

In a related incident, influencer Christopher Olive expressed his frustration on TikTok after being charged a 'crazy' $16 for a burger, fries, and soda.

The video has the caption: 'But $16? $16 for a burger, a large fry, and a drink? It's just crazy!'
