The TikTok user, known as @thatonedepressedginger, shared a behind-the-scenes video. 

In the clip, the McRib patties arrive frozen at the restaurant. The employee then demonstrates how the frozen meat is cooked and prepared.

He places the white, rectangular patties, which feature “rib” bumps on top, onto the grill.

After cooking, the meat is transferred to a warming oven. The TikToker admits, “I don’t know how long those have been in there.”

Once the patties are cooked, they are slathered in BBQ sauce before being served to customers. 

Other warming ovens hold the sauce-covered McRibs, ready to be served.

The video quickly went viral and sparked debate on social media

The TikToker called the raw, frozen patties “nasty,” echoing the reactions of some viewers. While some were disturbed, others defended the process, saying it’s exactly what they expect from frozen meat.

The McRib returned to McDonald’s nationwide on December 2, after an eight-year hiatus. 

First introduced in 1982 by McDonald’s executive chef Rene Arend, the sandwich has a cult-like following. 

Arend, who also invented the McNugget, was inspired by pulled pork sandwiches he tried in South Carolina.

Despite its appeal, the McRib isn’t a traditional pulled pork sandwich.
