The first 'M' stands for Mars Inc

One of the "M"s stands for Mars Inc.; after all, the company owns M&M.

The second 'M' is named Bruce Murrie.

The second M in M&M is named Bruce Murrie, whose first father helped develop the iconic candy-coated chocolate pieces with Mars.

In 1932, following a dispute with his father, Frank Mars, Forrest Mars ventured to England to establish the production of Mars bars. While in England, he observed people consuming small chocolate buttons 

In 1932, following a fallout with his father, Frank Mars, Forrest Mars went to England to start manufacturing Mars bars. He noticed people eating small chocolate buttons with a hard sugar shell coating, preventing them from melting.

Forrest Mars became intrigued by this idea and wanted to create chocolate in the future. Mars approached Bruce Murrie, the son of Hershey Chocolate's president, William F. R. Murrie, to present his idea, and his idea was impressive.

In 1940, M&M Ltd. was established, and the product hit U.S. shelves in 1941 before making its way to the UK in the 1980s. The collaboration between Forrest Mars and Bruce Murrie gave birth to the beloved brand that we called M&M.
