The manager explained that it was a normal procedure to ask for identification. The customer couldn't understand why ID was necessary for ordering food and expressed their disbelief.

'For why, what's the reason? ID if I wanna get food?' The customer asked.

'No problem, lads, You can phone the head office and they'll tell you,' the manager responded.

While the initial video mistakenly mentioned Harlow as the location, it was later clarified that the incident occurred at the Epping branch of Miller & Carter.

People had different opinions about the restaurant's policy.

Some thought that asking for ID could be a way to stop customers from leaving without paying, which is called "dine and dash."

Others thought it might be connected to a program called PubWatch, where banned people are not allowed to be served in various places.

However, some people who disagreed with the policy said they had never been asked for ID at Miller & Carter or other restaurants.

They believed that the requirement was unnecessary and criticized the restaurant for implementing it.

They suggested alternative systems, like paying at the bar after placing orders, which is similar to how it works in restaurants like Nando's or Wetherspoons.

Nobody planning to pay, would have an issue with showing ID, one user said.

well done Damien. they were gonna do a runner after eating, the second commented.

Probably because they’ve had some many people do runners, another wrote.

The incident is said to be influenced by another story a few days ago where a family left without paying a $407 bill after dining at a restaurant.
