According to Flightrader.24.com, the deliberate detour took place west of the Faroe Islands, lasting just under 10 minutes. This maneuver occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m., with the Airbus A320 cruising at an altitude of 37,000 feet (11,000 meters) and at a slightly sub-500mph speed. These details were gleaned from the data provided.

Luckily, the couple witnessed the majestic natural phenomenon.

Adam Groves, a 27-year-old owner of a recruitment company from Lymm, Cheshire, orchestrated a surprise for his partner, Jasmine Mapp, also 27, and working in digital marketing. His plan involved booking a flight to Reykjavik with the intention of proposing to her beneath the northern lights.

Unfortunately, the couple's ability to witness the aurora was thwarted by cloud cover during their holiday.

Then Mr. Groves successfully executed his proposal on an Icelandic coastal cliff. He recounted his expressed feeling that he shared that the moment of finally witnessing the northern lights during their flight home held a uniquely "special" significance for the couple.

He told the PA News that 'It was special—I went to Iceland with the intention of proposing to my girlfriend under the northern lights, so seeing it on our flight home was a great surprise'.

Photographs of the northern lights taken by the easyJet passengers have been shared widely on social media, showing hues of green and pink lighting up the night sky.
